My Story
Hi, I’m Rita, and welcome to Second Chance Pots! I’m happy you’re visiting, and I hope you are inspired by the transformations you’ll find here.
Second Chance Pots began in 2025 with a conversation during a therapy appointment that, honestly, changed the course of my life in ways I never expected. When asked what I like to do, that was easy, “thrifting”. When asked what else, I said “painting”, although I hadn’t picked up a paintbrush for months at that time.
I’ve always been someone who sees more than what’s right in front of me. Over the years, I’ve flipped curbside furniture, turned scrap wood into handmade signs, and written about the beauty of transforming something overlooked into something meaningful. I have a particular knack for seeing potential where others see nothing, and once that spark hits, the creativity is unstoppable for me.
Pots were different, though. I don’t pot plants. I’ve never had a green thumb, and I’m still learning my way around plant care. But a couple of years before that therapy appointment, I was stuck in a creative slump. After a corporate takeover where I lost my job, I also lost a sense of purpose I didn’t realize I had tied so closely to my work.
My therapist encouraged me to go to the thrift store, pick up anything, take it home, and paint it. So I did. I found a stack of flower pots headed for the dumpster, filled my cart with them, and painted every single one.
The feeling was freeing, and slowly, the creative energy came back. My confidence quickly followed.
What you’ll find here are the pots I’ve saved from the landfill that were on their way out. It wasn’t due to loss of function but instead, because they became chipped, cracked, or lost their “beauty” over time. But they still matter. I see that every day. I see beauty in imperfection, and when I paint these pots, they’re sometimes even better than new!
Second Chance Pots is about more than painting pots or vessels. It’s about renewal, intention, and believing that worn things still deserve a second chance.
